STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern women's basketball team will continue its three-game road trip as it takes on Atlantic Sun opponent Stetson, Sunday afternoon (Nov. 11). Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.
Georgia Southern looks to bounce back after a tough 72-58 road loss to Jacksonville (Nov. 9) in both teams' season opener. Senior forward Shawnda Atwood (Pensacola, Fla.) led the team with 14 points, while sophomore forward Jessica Geiger (Stone Mountain, Ga.) followed with nine points and five rebounds. The Lady Eagles rallied back from a 17-point first-half deficit to within just seven points with 7:21 remaining. But the Dolphins held on for the non-conference win.
Stetson also enters the game with a recent 78-60 home loss to North Carolina A&T (Nov. 9) at Edmunds Center. Hatter Tierra Brown led the team with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, including 4-of-8 from behind the three-point line. Following Brown was Sharnesha Smith with 11 points on 5-of-9 field goal shooting. The Aggies erased a 13-point halftime deficit with a 22-0 run to top the Hatters.
The Lady Eagles (0-1) will take on the Hatters (0-1) for the 30th time since their first clash in 1980. Georgia Southern holds a commanding 20-9 all-time series lead over Stetson, including an 8-7 series edge in games played at Stetson's home court.
The last time the two schools met was in Statesboro for the Lady Eagles' season-opening game for the 2006-2007 season. Georgia Southern defeated the visiting Hatters by a 62-46 decision that saw Shawnda Atwood tally a game-high 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
