Caforio and Helms Advance to the Semifinal Round of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. ? The Georgia Southern women's tennis team rounded out day two of competition at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
Sophomore Christine Caforio (Acworth, Ga.) and senior Kelli Helms (Cairo, Ga.) both advanced in C-2 and C-3 doubles on Saturday afternoon. Caforio moved on the Sunday's semifinal round by defeating Sara Schwartz of the College of Charleston 6-4, 6-1, before topping Kristen Gordon from East Carolina 6-0, 6-1. Caforio will face Ali Gores of Davidson College tomorrow. Helms advanced defeating Mary Heaner of Western Carolina in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 and then advanced to the semi's downing Sheelah Lyenger from East Carolina 6-2, 6-2.
Georgia Southern sophomore Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) lost 6-1, 6-3 in the A-2 singles flight to Amy Pazahanick of Coastal Carolina. Freshman Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) was also defeated 6-2, 6-1 to Tera Byrne from East Tennessee State in the B-1 singles flight. Freshman Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn) advanced to the second round in B-3 singles action before falling in three sets to Brooke Walters of East Carolina 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
The Eagles conclude fall action tomorrow at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. Doubles matches are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
