Paetz Rolls into Finals at Crimson Tide Fall Invitational

Tuscaloosa, Al. ? Georgia Southern men's tennis player Mark Paetz dominated day two of the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational, Saturday, rolling into the Starr singles finals. Paetz will compete to take the singles title Sunday morning.
Freshman Paetz, a native of Munich, Germany, took down two opponents over the course of Saturday to earn his place in the finals on Sunday. The Eagle first scratched off Wade Covington (Southern Miss) in a three-set quarterfinal battle. Paetz claimed the last two sets after dropping the first to Covington, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, before facing Diego Martinez from Troy in the semifinals. Paetz flew past Martinez, taking the match in straight 6-3 sets. Paetz will battle Chris Slabbert of UT Martin Sunday morning to claim the singles title.
In doubles competition, Paetz continued to team with Augusto Alavardo of Georgia State in the semifinals of the Tide doubles. The tandem took on George Gvelesiani/Doug Kenny of Georgia Tech, but fell, 8-2.
The Crimson Tide Fall Invitational will conclude competition Sunday with the final round of singles and doubles beginning at 9 am.
