STATESBORO, Ga. ? Georgia Southern freshman Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada) was named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week for her efforts in the Eagles 184-115 victory over the College of Charleston this past weekend.
Campbell received Swimmer of the Week honors after posting two individual victories, one relay win and a second place finish in Charleston last Saturday. She is just the second swimmer to win the award in the conference's brief history. It's the first time in Campbell's career that she has been named Swimmer of the Week.
She started off the meet with a victory in the 200 meter freestyle finishing with a time of 2:09.65 (1:56.17 - yards conversion). Campbell picked up another win in the 100 meter freestyle, racing in a time of 1:00.26 (53.99 - yards conversion) to beat out nine other swimmers. Her third victory of the day came in the 200 freestyle relay. Campbell's split time was 27.58, while the relay team finished in 1:50.65 (1:39.14 - yards conversion) for the win. To finish out the meet, Campbell finished second in the 400 meter freestyle out of eight swimmers with a time of 4:33.02.
The Eagles (1-0, 1-0) are back in the water this Saturday (Oct. 20), as they host Southeastern Conference opponent Vanderbilt. The meet officially christens the pristine Aquatics Center at the Recreation Activity Center.
