ABOUT HANNER
The W.S. Hanner Fieldhouse serves as the home of Eagle volleyball. Completed in 1969, the facility is named for the late W.S. "Shep" Hanner, the school's faculty athletic chairman from 1935 to 1959. Hanner also served at various times as tennis coach, assistant football coach, professor and chairman of the Division of Exercise Sciences.

The Fieldhouse is part of the larger Hanner Complex, which houses the Health, Physical Education and Professional Studies as well as Georgia Southern Athletics offices. In addition to the main competition arena, the complex contains two practice gymnasiums, a weight room, a gymnastic/aerobic room, an eight-lane collegiate swimming facility and athletic training facilities.

During the summer of 1995, the University completed a $500,000 renovation to Hanner Fieldhouse. Wooden bleachers at floor level were replaced with chairback seats, new floor graphics were painted and portable baskets with shot clocks were purchased. Outside the arena, the basketball locker rooms and coaches' offices were also renovated.

In 2016, Georgia Southern installed new LED lighting in the main arena, added three entrances to the building, installed a new floor in the lobby, refurbished the front entrance and installed additional seating to meet ADA requirements. The school also doubled the number of reserved, courtside seats to 50.

Georgia Southern refurbished the back gym in Hanner Fieldhouse, providing a stand-alone practice facility for the men's and women's basketball programs, in the fall of 2019.  The old floor was replaced with a three-quarter-inch wood regulation playing surface, which was painted and lined to replicate the same surface the Eagles play on in the main Hanner arena.

New lighting, which imitates the lighting in the main arena, was installed along with a scoreboard, clocks and shot clocks. The side goals have regulation 3-point lines for shooting practice, and decorative wall wraps were added to brand the facility and basketball programs.

A similar practice gymnasium in the Hanner Sports Complex for the volleyball program was completed in 2021.

Hanner was equipped with a Taraflex® FIVB Sport M Plus portable volleyball playing surface in 2022. The surface features Georgia Southern's logo, signature fonts and colors, and its markings are specific to volleyball. The Taraflex® FIVB court, manufactured by Gerflor and installed by Southeastern Surfaces & Equipment, offers a 35 percent improvement in shock absorption over a traditional wooden court and a 73 percent improvement on the Impact Protection Index. Taraflex® is globally renowned for its superior long-term safety features, its immediate protection of athletes and enhanced grip and slide for the best playability. The padding makes diving, sliding and jumping easier on the student-athletes' bodies.
