Eagles Earn 4-2 Win Over JMU In Sun Belt Opener

Georgia Southern rallies for victory over the Dukes; returns to action Saturday vs. Georgia State
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's tennis opened up Sun Belt Conference play successfully on Friday morning, defeating James Madison by a 4-2 score at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles improve to 6-6 overall and 1-0 in the league with the victory, while James Madison falls to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in the league. Georgia Southern will host another Sun Belt match on Saturday, facing Georgia State in a 1 p.m. contest at Wallis.
James Madison took an early 1-0 lead in the match thanks to winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles would quickly tie the match up thanks to Albert Widell's 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. JMU retook the lead with a straight set win at No. 6 singles, and all four remaining matches would be pushed to three sets.
Davis Taylor tied things back up at 2-all with his 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Albert Saar delivered a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, then Willy Mirarchi clinched the victory with his 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
"Our team is tough, we just gotta let ourselves run," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "I'm very proud of how the guys stuck together and the resiliency that was shown with today's win. We can't wait to get back at it tomorrow."
