In February 2014 Nic Obey joined the Georgia Southern University Strength and Conditioning staff. Obey is directly responsible for the training of student-athletes in baseball, softball, volleyball, track and field, and cross country, while also assisting with football. He was promoted to the director of strength & conditioning in September 2016. Â
Obey joined the staff at Georgia Southern after spending two years at North Dakota State University (NDSU) where he served as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, designing and implementing training programs for softball, men's golf, middle distance runners, and cross country student athletes. Â
He also assisted with men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, women’s soccer, and developmental football groups. Â
Obey served as a strength and conditioning intern with the University of Iowa football program during the spring of 2012.
A native of Chatfield, Minnesota, he attended Des Moines Area Community College and North Dakota State University where he was an outfielder on both baseball teams.
Obey earned his bachelor’s degree in 2012 from NDSU in Exercise Science. He earned his master’s degree in Leadership in Physical Education and Sport in 2014 from NDSU. Â
Obey is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), along with being a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, certified by USA Weightlifting (USAW). Â He is also CPR/AED certified. Â
