Shannon Phillips serves as the assistant director of strength & conditioning for Olympic Sports at Georgia, a position she assumed in July of 2019. Phillips comes to Statesboro after a year as a strength & conditioning intern at the University of Connecticut where she was responsible for all aspects of training for men’s & women’s swimming as well as men’s and women’s tennis.
Prior to her stint at UConn, Phillips served as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State University. She was responsible for all training aspects for women’s tennis and volleyball as well as assisting with softball. Phillips gained valuable experience while programming these teams as well as implementing various technology to optimize performance including TENDO Speed & Power Analyzers, Polar Heart Rate Monitors and VERT technology. In her time at Mississippi State, the women’s tennis beat No. 2 Vanderbilt in 2018 and competed in NCAA Championships for the third and fourth consecutive seasons, respectively. In addition, the softball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament in 2018, as well as competed in the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Tournament. While at Mississippi State, Phillips completed a Master’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in exercise physiology as well as an independent study where she created a strength & conditioning curriculum that she plans to implement with future interns.
Phillips served as a strength & conditioning intern at the University of Kentucky where she assisted with all aspects of training for baseball, women’s basketball, women’s cheer, diving, gymnastics, softball, women’s soccer, men’s & women’s swimming, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball. Prior to Kentucky, she was a volunteer intern at Temple University where she assisted with men’s crew, men’s & women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s golf, women’s lacrosse, women’s rowing, women’s soccer, men’s soccer and volleyball.
Phillips completed a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Eastern University (St. David’s, PA) in 2015. She was a member of the women’s volleyball team which competed in four NCAA tournaments as well as a trip to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight in 2013.
A King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, native is a CSCS by the National Strength & Conditioning Association, a SCCC by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association and is certified in American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED.
