Biography

2024-25: The starting placekicker and kickoff man for all 13 games … Saw action on 129 special teams plays … Made 15 of 18 field goals, including seven of 40 yards or longer … Had 36 touchbacks on 68 kickoffs … Made all four PATs and had a 31-yard field goal against Boise State … Made two field goals, including a career-long 48 yarder, in the win at Nevada … Made six PATs and had five touchbacks against South Carolina State … Made both field goals, including a 42-yarder, and his PAT at Ole Miss … Connected on all five PATs and hit a career-long 53-yard field goal in the win at Georgia State … Made his lone PAT and a 42-yard field goal in the win over Marshall … Made all four PATs and had five kickoffs in the win over James Madison … Had two touchbacks and a PAT at Old Dominion … Made all four PATs and had three touchbacks in the win over South Alabama … Hit a pair of field goals, including a 45 yarder, against Troy … Hit four field goals and two PATs to go along with five touchbacks in the win at Coastal Carolina … Made all three PATs in the win over App State … Made a pair of 49-yard field goals against Sam Houston in the New Orleans Bowl … Made the Dean’s List in the fall for posting a GPA higher than 3.50.

2023-24: Saw action in every game for the Yellow Jackets … Served as Georgia Tech’s kickoff specialist, with 40 touchbacks in 62 tries … Averaged 62.7 yards per kickoff… Kicked a perfect 8-8 on extra point attempts this season… Tallied a total of 3,888 yards on kickoffs this season.

2022-23: Emerged as one of college football’s top kickers after taking over Georgia Tech’s place-kicking duties in the fifth game of the season … Set a single-season school record and ranked 10th nationally and second in the ACC in field-goal percentage (.923 – 12-of-13) … The .923 field goal percentage shattered the previous school record of .882 (15-of-17) that was shared by three GT kickers … Became the first Tech kicker in the past 40 seasons (since at least 1982) to make his first 10 field goal attempts of a season … Was named Tech’s primary place kicker ahead of Pitt game and responded by making 4-of-4 field goal attempts in a driving rainstorm, including a career-long 40-yarder, to help lead GT to a win over the 24th-ranked Panthers … Four FGs at Pitt were just one shy of the GT record … Became only the ninth player in school history to make as many as four FG in a game … Named ACC Specialist of the Week following his performance at Pitt … In his next game, made all three field goals, including the 37-yard game-winner in overtime, to lead the Jackets to a 30-27 win over Duke … After making single kicks against Virginia and Florida State, was good on 3-of-3 in GT’s 28-27 victory at Virginia Tech … Finally had his first miss of the season in his final FG attempt of the year, when an errant snap and hold contributed to a miss at North Carolina … Also handled 40 of 45 kickoffs and recorded 22 touchbacks … Named to All-ACC Academic Team.

2021-22: Served as Georgia Tech’s kickoff specialist throughout the season …Of his 55 kickoffs, 33 went for touchbacks (60%), 10 were fair caught (18%) and just 12 were returned (22%) … Attempted just one field goal, a 51-yarder that was blocked in the waning seconds of season opener versus Northern Illinois.

2020-21: Appeared in eight games and became Georgia Tech’s primary place kicker … Made 22-of-24 extra-point attempts, including 11-straight to close the season … Missed first field-goal attempt of the season at Syracuse but finished 2-for-3 on the year by going 2-for-2 from 26 and 22 yards at NC State … Kicked off three times on the season.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played wide receiver, safety and kicker at Benedictine Military Academy for Coach Danny Britt … Made 9-of-9 field goals (47-yard long) and 55-of-55 extra points. 

PERSONAL: Born Gavin Patrick Stewart on July 18 in Savannah … Son of Wendy and Brandon Stewart … Has a sister, Sarah, and a brother, Brad … Brad, played wide receiver at Georgia Tech from 2015-18 … Sarah played volleyball at Georgia College … Grandfather is Jim Walsh Sr., who played at Auburn in the 1950s and coached for 25 seasons at Benedictine, compiling a record of 185-82-1 … A four-time member of ACC academic honor roll while at GT.
