Veteran broadcaster comes from New Mexico State
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern Athletics has named Adam Young as the new Voice of the Eagles and Director of Broadcasting for the Georgia Southern Sports Network.
Young becomes just the fourth football play-by-play announcer in Georgia Southern's storied football history, following the legendary voices of the late Nate Hirsch, Chris Blair and Danny Reed, continuing a broadcasting tradition that has chronicled some of the greatest moments in Eagle Athletics for more than four decades.
One of the nation's most accomplished collegiate broadcasters, Young arrives in Statesboro after serving as the Director of Broadcasting and play-by-play voice at New Mexico State, where he called football, basketball, baseball and numerous other sports while overseeing the Aggies' broadcasting operation and multimedia content.
"Georgia Southern has one of the richest traditions in all of college athletics, and the Voice of the Eagles plays an important role in preserving and sharing that tradition," said Director of Athletics Chris Davis. "Adam is an elite broadcaster whose preparation, professionalism and passion for storytelling immediately stood out throughout our search. He understands that this position is about much more than calling games—it's about connecting generations of Eagle fans, celebrating our student-athletes and coaches and bringing the stories of Georgia Southern Athletics to life. We are thrilled to welcome Adam and his family to Eagle Nation."
Over the course of his career, Young has established himself as one of the premier voices in college athletics. His television play-by-play work has appeared on ESPN+, Bally Sports regional networks, Altitude Sports and other national and regional platforms. In addition to his collegiate responsibilities, Young has called NCAA Division II and Division III Volleyball National Championships on ESPN+ and ESPNU, Conference USA Championships, WAC Championships and professional baseball.
"I'm honored and excited to be named the new Voice of the Eagles," Young said. "Georgia Southern is a special place with a national brand. The people make the place and I got to know countless amazing people during the entire process. My family and I can't wait to be part of it all."
Young has earned national recognition throughout his career, including being named one of the Top 20 Collegiate Sportscasters in America by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA) during college, and later as one of the organization's Top 30 Sportscasters Under 30. He was also featured in veteran broadcaster Bill Brown's book Sportscasting 101 and has become widely respected throughout the broadcasting industry for his preparation, versatility and storytelling ability.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome Adam to Georgia Southern," said Cam Brown, Learfield's Georgia Southern Sports Properties General Manager. "Throughout the interview process, his energy, authenticity and passion for storytelling stood out. Adam has a genuine ability to connect with people, and I have no doubt he'll continue to elevate the Georgia Southern Sports Network while telling the stories of our student-athletes, coaches, corporate partners and Eagle Nation."
Before arriving at New Mexico State, Young spent four seasons as the Voice of the Gateway Grizzlies while also working for SIU Edwardsville, McKendree University, Washington University in St. Louis and Saint Louis University. His broadcasting career began at just 17 years old in the St. Louis area before quickly rising through collegiate and professional ranks.
Young will serve as the primary play-by-play voice for Georgia Southern football, men's basketball and baseball while contributing multiple types of content across the department's multimedia and digital platforms. He will also serve as an ambassador for Eagle Nation, emceeing and hosting key events.
A native of Waterloo, Illinois, he and his wife Ashley have a son named Porter, who is three.
