Eagles Clipped by James Madison Wednesday

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Cliff Davis scored 24 points and Preston Fowler added 20 points and 11 rebounds, as James Madison (17-13, 9-8 SBC) defeated Georgia Southern (15-15, 7-10 SBC), 82-66, on Wednesday evening at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
Georgia Southern trailed 38-37 at the break, after the Dukes ended the first half on a 6-0 run. The Eagles regained the lead out of the half, building a three-point advantage early.
James Madison responded with a decisive run behind Davis, who made four three-pointers, and Fowler, who controlled the glass and scored nine points at the free throw line. The Dukes shot 54% in the second half and outscored the Eagles 44-29 over the final 20 minutes.
Tyren Moore led all Eagles with 20 points, four assists, and four steals. Alden Applewhite added 15 points and seven rebounds, as Khayri Dunn chipped in nine points off the bench.

- Georgia Southern extended its lead to five points nearly halfway through the first half, after Tsvet Sotirov slashed through the paint and slammed it home, 20-15.
- The Eagles stretched their lead to the largest of the first-half, holding JMU to 1-of-8 shooting over three minutes of action, 27-18.
- James Madison cut into the Eagles lead to three making 3-of-3 baskets during a two-minute stretch, 31-28.
- The Dukes used a 6-0 run over the final minute of action, taking a one-point lead into the break, 38-37. The Eagles shot 45 percent in the first half, including 6-of-17 from beyond the arc.
- Out of the half, Georgia Southern continued to control the pace of play, forcing the Dukes into 13 turnovers through the first 25 minutes of action, 41-38.
- James Madison made the next six attempts they took, pushing their lead to five points, 58-53.
- A 10-0 run by James Madison over two minutes pushed the Dukes' lead to the largest of the game, 17-points, 76-59.
