THE OPENING TIP
THE OPENING TIP
- The Eagles and Thundering Herd played an instant classic a week ago at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center, as Georgia Southern defeated Marshall 101-87 to conclude the home slate for the Eagles. Round two of the Eagles vs. Herd falls on the eve of Marshall's senior day this time, but instead of being broadcast on ESPNU, the two sides will take their talents to the hardwood on ESPN2. It will mark the third time this season that Georgia Southern will appear on national television, after falling to South Alabama on ESPNU in Mobile, and defeating Marhsall on ESPNU in Statesboro.
- Graduate Tyren Moore continues to find his name all over the Eagles' record book, already becoming the 47th player in program history to scored 1,000 points, Moore moved into 19th out of 29 players in the D1 era, passing Donte Gennie (2003-07) with his efforts against Appalachian State. Moore is quickly approaching Willie Powers III (2007-12 – 1,321) for 18th in program history.
- Senior forward Shainen Carter has been a pain eraser this season, collecting 40 blocks in 28 contests for the Eagles. In his most recent stanza, Carter tied the school record for blocks in a single game, registering six against Old Dominion on the road. With one block against Georgia State on Thursday, Carter tied Avante Parker (2023-24) for eighth all-time in a single season. Entering Wednesday's contest against James Madison, Carter needs one block to join Montae Glenn (2017-18) for seventh and five blocks to tie Simeon Carter (2019-20) for sixth all-time at 45.
- The Eagles have made 276 total three-pointers on the season, posting the third most made in the Sun Belt Conference. The Blue and White are averaging 9.51 made three-pointers per game, tying a season-high of 15 against Marshall on Saturday. Graduate guard Tyren Moore leads the Eagles with 82 made three-pointers after setting a new career high of eight made against the Thundering Herd. The 82 made this season, ties Moore with Donte Gennie (2006-07) for 10th most in a single season, chasing Jake Allsmiller and Antonio Hanson (83). With 214 career three-pointers made in a Georgia Southern uniform, Moore passes Mike Hughes for 9th all-time in program history and is chasing Ike Smith (2015-20 – 217).
- Georgia Southern wraps up the 2025-26 regular season with a road trip through Virginia and West Virginia. The Eagles kick off the final week of the year traveling to James Madison on Wednesday evening, before making the trek up the mountain to face Marshall on ESPN2, Friday evening. Georgia Southern has already taken the first game from JMU and Marshall, and looks to complete the sweep this week on the road.
