ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia Southern (15-13, 7-8 SBC) erased a 10-point half time deficit, but Georgia State (10-18, 7-8 SBC) held off the Eagles at the Georgia State Convocation Center, 66-64.

Micah Tucker added 15 points for the Panthers, while Jelani Hamilton contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles were led by Tyren Moore with 14 points, while Alden Applewhite added 11, and Khayri Dunn and Nakavieon White scored 10 points each, as the Eagles outscored Georgia State 37-29 in the second half but fell just short.

The Eagles trimmed the deficit to two points late, but could not complete the comeback. Georgia Southern heads to Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Through the first two media timeouts, both teams traded baskets with the Panthers gaining a seven-point advantage while shooting 66.7% from the field, 23-16.
At the break, Georgia Southern saw themselves down by 10 points, after Georgia State shot 38.0% from three-point range and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, 37-27.
The Eagles opened the second half on a 6-0 run, as Tyren Moore knocked down a three-pointer to cut the Georgia State lead to five, before Shainen Carter was fouled under the basket at the under-16-minute-media timeout, 45-40.
Georgia Southern took the lead for the first time all evening, as Alden Applewhite drained a three-pointer with under 10 minutes to play, 52-49, part of a 10-0 run.
