Team Moves to 17-2 on the season
NCAA SCORECARD
STATESBORO - The sixth-ranked Georgia Southern rifle team started the spring portion of its schedule with a 4717-4703 victory over 12-ranked Air Force Saturday morning at the Shooting Sports Education Center to move to 17-2 on the season.
In smallbore, Emme Walrath took first place with a 591 while Bremen Butler took second with a 588. The Falcons took the next three places to help pace them to a 2335 and win the discipline by one point.
In air rifle, the Eagles got another strong performance from Butler to roar back with a 2,382 to take the aggregate win. After shooting a nine in her third shot, Butler reeled off 56 10s to shoot her fourth 599 of the season to take first place. Matilda Eylander placed third with a 595 while Walrath (51x) and Emma Pohlmann (49x) tied for fourth but Walrath won the tiebreaker based on center shots. .
The Eagles took the top two spots in aggregate, led by Butler's 1,187. Walrath took second with a 1,185.
Words From Coach Soren Butler: "Tough start back. Definitely didn't expect this outcome but we're looking forward to having an opportunity to bounce back tomorrow. It'll be a good opportunity to see what we're actually made of. We had some really solid individual performances from Emme in smallbore and Bremen in air.
