New Orleans, La. --- As announced by the conference office on Wednesday, sophomore defender Noah Holmstrøm is the first Defensive Player of the Week of the 2025 men's soccer season.
In the Eagles' opening two matches, Holmstrøm played a big part into keeping the clean sheet for both contests against Charlotte and UNCW. It's just the second time in program history where the Eagles have shut out both of their opening two opponents. Because of this, it's also the first time in program history to start consecutive seasons with two clean sheets to open the season.
Holmstrøm also had the assist on the Eagles first goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead on a Charlotte squad who made the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons. After taking possession in the 49ers attacking third, Holmstrøm sent a ball that traveled nearly half the pitch to a cutting Ricky Louis. The ball also sent the keeper out, which Louis was able to fool and beat to the ball for an open-net goal for their first of the season. After taking the 1-0 lead, the Eagles would not look back and take home a 2-0 win over Charlotte.
The award for Holmstrøm comes in just the first week of the season, earning himself the earliest weekly conference award in program history. He also is the second Eagle in two season to win the Defensive Player of the Week award, as Julien Seher earned it in early September of 2024.
Holmstrøm and the Eagles next travel to Wofford on Thursday night, August 28th, to try and keep their clean sheet streak. Kickoff in Spartanburg is set for 7 PM on Thursday night.
