STATESBORO — The Georgia Southern men's soccer team announced their recent signees in preparation for the upcoming 2025 season. The seven new Eagles see all but one of them coming from outside the country. The class represents five different countries and every position is accounted for.
Jelani Brathwaite: Defender/Midfielder - Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Freshman
Previously a product of Vaughan SC and Masters Academy, Brathwaite was a force to be reckoned with in the League 2 Championships this past year. Brathwaite played in three matches for the League 2 squad, logging 249 minutes on the pitch and a lone goal scored during his time in the spring. So far in the U-20 League 1 summer league, Brathwaite played in six matches with two goals, including one in just the ninth minute against North Toronto U20 on June 10th.
From Coach Squires: "Jelani is versatile and can play up and down each flank. He adds more athleticism and energy to our team, and a great attitude on and off the ball."
Manuel Flores: Forward - Lisbon, Portugal - Senior
Coming to Statesboro from Tennessee Southern, Flores spent his last three seasons with the Firehawks. There, he recorded a career 29 goals, 21 assists and 79 points for the NAIA squad, totaling over 3,100 minutes on the pitch. Additionally, Flores went for 18 goals in his 17 matches played in last season, earning him an NAIA All-American third team honor. Flores was also rewarded for his work in the classroom, being named Barnes & Noble College Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and CSC First-Team Academic All-American.
From Coach Squires: "Manuel comes to us after a great NAIA career at UT Southern. As an All-American forward, he has a proven track record of scoring goals and creating for others. He can unlock defences and will improve our attack."
Nathan Hall: Goalkeeper - Stafford, Va. - Freshman
A member of Richmond United, most recently playing for their U18/19 team, Hall was impressive at the multitude of camps he attended and well sought-out by scouts. For Colonial Forge High School, Hall had three clean sheets in his senior season, allowing just 15 goals.
From Coach Squires: "Nathan was first identified on the recruiting trail and then confirmed his ability with a great showing at one of our camps. He brings a family legacy to Southern, and will compete at the goalkeeper position. We are only carrying three in this position, so needed to be sure we got the right guy in."
Milan Kapor: Defender - Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Freshman
Along with Jelani Brathwaite, Kapor comes from Vaughan SC, also as a member of the back line. He currently plays in Onatrio's League2 as well as the Ontario League1 U-20 Summer League. With the summer league, Kapor has played in four matches and scored a goal on June 5th in a 4-0 win over Scrosoppi FC. With Kapor at Vaughan SC, he has not lost a match in a game he has played in since being a part of the U-20 team.
From Coach Squires: "Milan has a high ceiling, and as a left footed center back, he fills a need in that position. He balances being calm and composed in possession, with an aggression and physicality in his defending."
Edan Sears: Defender - Telford, England - Senior
A transfer from William Penn (also graduate assistant Harry Nash's alma mater), Sears has a plethora of experience and success at the NAIA level with the Statesmen. Across his four years, Sears played in 70 matches, while a starter in 49 of them. In his last season at WP, Sears racked up three points on the season with an assist and scored his lone goal of the season in a 3-1 victory over Clarke on September 17th. He also was a main factor in holding 12 opponents scoreless throughout his last season with the Statesmen that included just three losses, and a run all the way to the NAIA National Championship. Sears also is a two-time NAIA All-American, as he was named to the third team in 2023 and the first team just last season.
From Coach Squires: "Edan also comes to us after a standout All-American career at NAIA level. As a center back, Edan is a strong defender and offers additional leadership and experience, coming off a run to the NAIA national championship game."
Emil Seedorff: Forward - Fredericia, Denmark - Freshman
Seedorff joins Southern most recently as a member of Thisted FC, competing in the Danish 2nd Division. In his time with them the past two seasons, he has racked up 25 matches and his lone goal came nearly a month ago with his 47th minute goal on June 8th in a 1-1 draw against BK Frem. Seedorff started his career with Hobro in the Danish 1st Division for one season, before landing at AB Argir from 2022-2023 of the Faroe Islands Premier League.
From Coach Squires: "Emil has experience of high level soccer in Denmark, and will bring creativity and intelligence as an older freshman. He will help us evolve our style of play and is an exciting addition."
Finn Steele: Defender - Ipswich, England - Graduate
A transfer from Eckerd College, a Division II institution in Florida, Steele started in 29 of his 31 matches with the Tritons. A main force on the back line, he also recorded two assists in his most recent season. Both of them also came in conference victories. Steele also played eleven matches of 80 or more minutes on the pitch his last season. He also was a member of the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in both seasons with the Tritons,
From Coach Squires: "Finn is a model of consistency and delivers a strong performance every week. His experience at Eckerd College in D2 will make the transition to the SBC smoother, and is another player bringing experience and maturity to the squad."
The Eagles start their 2025 season on August 9th, with an exhibition match against Winthrop at Bo Pitts Field at 7 PM.
