Burke Named Coach of the Year, Women’s Golf Racks Up Sun Belt Honors

Eagles take three of four Sun Belt honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Georgia Southern women's golf took home three of the four Sun Belt awards as announced by the Sun Belt conference on Tuesday afternoon. The awards were voted on by the league's coaches and all-conference selections were determined by Clippd rankings. 

For the second straight season, Louise Reau was tabbed the league's Golfer of the Year. LoraLie Cowart was voted Newcomer of the Year and Head Coach Mimi Burke was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year. Reau, Cowart, and Mary Miller were named first team All-Sun Belt and Drive Tunwannarux placed on the second team. 

Reau posted a 72.28 season scoring average to lead the Eagles this season competing in all 13 tournaments and set a program record 37 rounds played in a single season. The sophomore also set a program record with 125 birdies, 21 rounds of par or better, and lowest round. Reau shot a 65 (-7) second round at the Tiger Classic for the lowest round in program history which led to her first individual title of the season before taking her second at The Southern. She was named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament team after finishing tied for second at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Reau shot the second lowest 54-hole total (206) in program history at the Mason Rudolph Classic to finish tied for fifth. Reau capped off the season ranked #70 in the nation by Clippd. 

Cowart posted a 73.19 season scoring average in her first season with Georgia Southern. Cowart played 34 rounds in 12 tournaments for the Eagles, which marks the second-most in program history. Cowart posted her best finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic tying for second place shooting 74-70-73=217 (+1). Cowart finished fourth at the Sun Belt Conference tournament shooting a 54-hole total personal best 214 (-2) and was named to the All-Tournament team. Cowart finished the season with four top-5 finishes, five top-10 finishes, and seven top-10 finishes. She finished the season ranked #170 individually by Clippd. 

Miller posted a 73.81 season scoring average in her freshman campaign for Georgia Southern. She started in all 13 tournaments for the Eagles and set a program record 37 rounds played in a single season. Miller shot a collegiate best vs. par (-5) to take home her first collegiate win at the More Than Golf Invitational. She finished with six top-10 finishes and seven top-20 finishes. Miller shot her lowest 54-hole total at the NCAA Lexington Regional firing a 213 over three rounds to finish seventh in the regional. Miller finished first on the team with three eagles, first in tournaments at par or better (6), second on the team in birdies (101), and second in rounds of par or better (17). She was 2-1 in match play this season and finished with a 685-374-38 record. The freshman finished the season ranked #176 nationally by Clippd. 

Tunwannarux posted a 74.31 season scoring average in her first season with the Eagles. Her best finish came at the Liz Murphey Classic finishing in a tie for fourth after shooting a 218 with eight birdies. Tunwannrux finished inside the top-20 in four of her seven tournaments played. 

Head Coach Mimi Burke led Georgia Southern to its first NCAA National Championship appearance as the Eagles finished tied for 24th place. Georgia Southern finished as the highest G5 school and the 24th place finish marks the highest finish by a Sun Belt school since the 2009 season. Burke led the Eagles to a tie for second place at the NCAA Lexington Regional to advance to the national championship only losing to #3 Florida State by five strokes. She led the Eagles to six tournament championships including through a two months span of not losing a single stroke play tournament. The Eagles finished the season with a 118-69-2 record and secured the highest ranking in program history sitting at #32 in the country. Burke led the squad to seven top-5 and 11 top-10 team finishes. She coached three individual tournament championships, 17 top-5, 22 top-10, and 35 top-20 individual finishes. The Eagles shattered the team average program record (291.40) and tallied the programs second most team birdies (383). Burke was also named to the WGCA National Coach of the Year watchlist.
