PHILADELPHIA & ORLANDO– The Georgia Southern track & field team had success in both its events this weekend, highlighted by the 4x100 team breaking the school record in the event at the Penn Relays.
The team of
Shatalya Dorsett,
Emani George,
Devine Parker and
NaJ Watson ran to a time of 44.19 in the preliminary heat of the 4x100, shattering the school record of 44.50 set in 2014 by the team of Alyssa Felton, Jasmin Walker, Aarian Tipton and Jordan Fordham.
In the finals, the squad placed 4th with a time of 44.98.
Dorsett (11.68, #4 all-time), Watson (11.70) and Parker (11.73, #7 all-time) qualified for the 100m event finals, with Watson finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 11.63 after the other two did not run.
Shifting to the UCF Knights Invite,
Imani Moore continued her solid stretch of competition by winning the triple jump - increasing her #2 all-time mark with a performance of 12.72m / 41 '8.75".
Jailah Lee followed her teammate with the #7 all-time jump in the event, placing fifth with a leap of 12.34m / 40 '6".
Leonaya Knox furthered her 2nd place mark in the books in the 100m hurdles with a run of 13.61.
In distance,
Emily Wheldon unseated Abby Bloom (2007, 11:35.24) for second place in the 3000m steeplechase all-time, finishing with a time of 11:34.46.
Kennedy Hood also added a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 5.87m.
The Eagles will turn attention ahead to the Sun Belt Championships which begin on May 8.
