Women’s Golf Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Lexington Regional

Eagles earn first at-large bid, sits #34 in Clippd rankings

STATESBORO – 34th-ranked Georgia Southern women's golf earned its first at-large bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Championships as announced on the Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon. 

The Lexington Regional is scheduled for May 5-7 at the Keene Trace Golf Club where the Eagles will compete against 11 other teams and six individuals. The top five teams and the top individual not on those teams will advance to the finals, which will be played May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The field in the Lexington Regional consists of Florida State, Southern California, TCU,  Vanderbilt, Kansas State, Georgia Southern, Pepperdine, Louisville, Miami, Western Kentucky, Indiana, and Ball State. 

Georgia Southern finished second at the Sun Belt Conference Championships for the second straight season. The Eagles claimed the top seed in stroke play before taking the semifinals against ULM, 3-2. The squad fell to Southern Miss in the final match, 1-3-1. Louise Reau finished tied for second place and LoraLie Cowart finished fourth to earn Sun Belt All-tournament honors. 

This season, the Eagles have six team titles and have finished top-10 in 10 of its 11 tournaments. Georgia Southern rattled off six straight wins including four tournament wins and two match play wins before falling in the Sun Belt Championship. The Eagles look to make its first appearance in the NCAA Championship finals.
