BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Georgia Southern men's tennis wrapped up a perfect weekend in Alabama by defeating UAB, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon in Birmingham.

Georgia Southern improves to 8-5 on the season with a third straight win over the Blazers, while UAB falls to 4-7. The Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 8, hosting Mercer in a 2 p.m. contest against the Bears at the Wallis Tennis Center.

The doubles point went to the Eagles thanks to a 6-4 win from Dimitris Paliouras and Pierre Mouesca at No. 2 doubles, as well as a 6-2 win from Pol del Castillo and Matthew Mitchell at No. 3 doubles.

The Eagles quickly clinched the victory with three straight-set singles wins. Aaron James Williams defeated Ondrej Valek, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, then del Castillo downed Georgios Nouchakis, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Laurent Julia Calac clinched the victory with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Hoan Mouret at No. 5 singles.

UAB took a singles win at No. 4 singles, while Dimitris Paliouras earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles and Matthew Mitchell won a three-set victory at No. 6 singles for the final margin.

"Today was a solid finish to the weekend," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "I thought the guys did great at ditching judgement, and accepting what it was going to take to work out of each respective situation. We are getting better and can't wait to host Mercer right before GATA Jam."
