The 13th Annual Colleton River Collegiate Tournament, hosted by Michigan State, returns to Colleton River Club and the award-winning Pete Dye Golf Course March 2-3. Georgia Southern plays in the tournament for the sixth consecutive time and is looking to defend its back-to-back-to-back team titles at the event. The Eagles also won the the tournament in 2020 and tied for seventh in 2019.
While the Eagles have had success at the Colleton the past three years, this year's lineup will look a bit different. Brycen Jones and Luke Koenig competed on the scoring squad last year with Jones winning the event last year as a true freshman. Ingram started in the #5 spot last year and will be an individual scorer this year while Parker Claxton was the individual last year and will start in the #1 spot this year.
The Eagles will tee off the first hole in a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on holes 14-18 with Penn State, Iowa and Wake Forest.
Following the event, Georgia Southern will have two weeks off before playing in the Johnnie-O Invitational at the prestigious Seaside Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Georgia, March 17-18.
ABOUT THE DYE COURSE AT COLLETON RIVER:
This stunning links-type course plays through dense Low Country forest as well as open scenic wetlands, offering unobstructed views of Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. The Pete Dye Course at Colleton River is uniquely different from the Nicklaus Course, featuring small undulating greens that are well protected by pot bunkers. The only course of its kind in the southeast, the Dye Course plays host to major tournaments like the South Carolina Amateur, US Amateur Qualifier, US Open Qualifier and the 2015 US Junior Amateur Tournament. With a mix of challenge and beauty, it is no wonder that Academy Award-Winner Robert Redford chose the Dye Course to film pivotal and iconic scenes of his movie, "The Legend of Bagger Vance." The course was restored during the Summer of 2016, and is now more spectacular than ever.
