Orlando, Fla. --- After two days of competition at the Rosen Aquatic Center, the Georgia Southern Swim and Dive team sit in third place after two days of competition in the Sun Belt Championships.
On Day One, after a tough start in the 200 medley relay, the squad saw their first podium finish as they placed second in the team dive, securing a silver medal with a score of 265.75. The end to Day One was a historic one, though, as the third-place finishing 800 free relay team of Alex Pope, Jamsion Tiller, Carsyn Cosman, and Zuri Clavo set a new school-record with their 7:24.60 mark. On Day Two, three Eagles put themselves into the A Finals across Friday's prelims earlier that morning, while Karlee Wells set a top-two score in program history with her 3M dive prelim score of 317.80, missing her own school record by just under two points. In the finals, Clavo secured a top-five finish in the 500 free with Tiller swimming a lifetime best 4:58.52 to lock up tenth place. In the 200 IM Finals, Scout Chapin also swam a new personal best of 2:05.44 in the A Finals for seventh place while the trio of Madlen Wendland, Jenna Maloy, and Anna Cesario all swam season bests in the event.
In the 50 Free, Chiara Alberti swam a 22.93 to place herself in second not only in the event, but also in the Georgia Southern record books, just 0.05 away from the record that was set ten years ago. Alyssa Ifill also scored big points in the A Finals with her new best time of 23.69, with Sally Ouzts also setting a new PB of 24.28. In the 3M diving finals, GS locked up 5th, 7th, and 9th from the dives of Wells, McKinlee Taulbee, and Abby Ounsworth, respectively.
Finally, Day Two ended with a bang yet again as the 200 free relay final of Alberti, Abby Wenham, Ifill, and Carsyn Cosman secured a podium finish and wrote their way as the number two time in program history with their blazing time of 1:32.52, putting them ahead of their mark set just last year by nearly a whole second.
