Atlanta, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern dive team placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the Emory invite this past weekend. Along with record performance, two more Eagles recorded scores that qualify them for zones come springtime.
Karlee Wells won both the 1M and 3M dives with her scores of 306.90 and 304.45, respectively. Those scores were both top-five all time in program history, and Wells now owns all five of the top times in the 3M in school history with her performance today.
Both McKinlee Taulbee and Abby Ounsworth qualified for zones this afternoon in the 1M with their scores of 275.70 and 272.70, respectively. The duo would round out the podium spots, finishing just behind their teammate in Wells to sweep the top three spots in the event. Taulbee would also place third in the 3M with her 270.75, a new career high for her, while Ounsworth placed 6th with her 229.28.
McKenzie Smith and Ava Mallon also performed well on the weekend as well, with Smith setting a career high in the 1M with her 213.08, and also in the 3M with a 206.85 to edge her previous high by just two points. Mallon dove a 173.40 on Friday night in the 1M to set a new PB by over 20 points, while placing 10th in the 3M on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles look forward to their midseason meet, as the swim team travels to Columbia to compete in the South Carolina Invite, while the dive team heads north to Virginia to compete in the Liberty Invite. Both meets are set for the 19th-21st of November.
