
Destiny Garrett Named Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Eagles point guard averaged 20.5 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in a pair of wins last week
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern graduate point guard Destiny Garrett has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Garrett earns the honor for leading the Eagles to a pair of wins last week as Georgia Southern extended its current win streak to five. The Bessemer, Ala., native averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game in the pair of games.
On Thursday, she hit for 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-2 from three-point range, while adding four rebounds and a season-high four steals in the Egales' 70-44 win over North Florida . She then scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in Sunday's 72-56 win over Furman, helping GS snap a 10-game losing streak to the Paladins. Garrett shot 57.7% from the floor and she leads GS in scoring and assists on the year.
This is the first Sun Belt weekly honor for Garrett, and she is the first Georgia Southern women's basketball player to earn a weekly honor since Leah Johnson was the league's Player of the Week on December 24, 2025.
Garrett and the Eagles return to action on Friday, December 12, hosting Coastal Georgia in its annual Kids Field Trip Day game at 11 a.m.
