
Six Eagles in Double Figures Lifts Georgia Southern Over Gardner-Webb Saturday

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Georgia Southern (6-5) used a balanced scoring effort and another monster performance from Alden Applewhite to edge Gardner-Webb (0-11), 88-84, on Saturday afternoon at Paul Porter Arena.
Applewhite posted 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, anchoring a Georgia Southern lineup that saw five players score in double figures as the Eagles picked up their road win of the season.
Nakavieon White led Georgia Southern with 15 points, while Spudd Webb and Andres Burney each added 14. Dwayne Williams Jr. chipped in 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers. The Eagles' bench contributed 53 points and fueled a 46-point first half that put them ahead 46-43 at the break.
Burney provided a major spark, scoring 10 of his 14 points in the opening period while adding a career-high four steals. Georgia Southern forced 15 turnovers and turned them into 19 points.
Gardner-Webb stayed within reach, behind 22 points from Jacob Hudson and 20 from Spencer Sims, who knocked down four three-pointers. The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field but were undone by giveaways and the Eagles' depth.
Georgia Southern opened the second half on a 10-4 run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Applewhite, pushing the lead to 56-47. The Eagles led by as many as 11 before Gardner-Webb rallied late, closing the margin to four inside the final minute. Webb sealed the win with two free throws with 1:53 remaining.

- Georgia Southern held off a late Gardner-Webb push to enter halftime with a three-point lead, 46-43.
- The Eagles opened an 8-0 run to begin the second half guided by Andres Burney, scoring down low twice, 56-47.
- At the under-eight-minute media timeout, Khayri Dunn became the fifth Eagle on the afternoon to score in double figures, knocking down a three-pointer to put the Eagles up 12, 74-62.
- Gardner-Webb scored on its next four attempts, including a three-pointer in the corner by Spencer Sims, cutting the Eagles' lead to six, 76-71.

- Freshman Jayden Williams made his first collegiate start on Saturday against Gardner-Webb, scoring four points, collecting one rebound, dishing three assists, and tallying one steal in 20 minutes of action.
- Redshirt senior Andres Burney collected a season-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting Saturday. Burney led the Eagles in the first half, shooting 5-for-6 for 12 points. He added five boards and tallied a career-high four steals in 21 minutes of play.
- Six Eagles scored in double figures, as Nakavieon White led the way with 15, Burney and Spudd Webb scored 14, Dwayne Williams Jr. tallied 13, Alden Applewhite posted 12, and Khayri Dunn scored 11.
- Alden Applewhite produced his third double-double of the season, scoring 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting and adding three three-pointers. He also tallied 12 rebounds, 10 defensively, while dishing two assists. Applewhite now holds all three double-doubles the Eagles have produced this season.
- The Eagles tallied 53 bench points on Saturday, outscoring the Runnin' Bulldogs 53-31 in that area. Georgia Southern also outscored Gardner-Webb 42-38 in the paint.
