Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 20 Eagles Fall to No. 25 Wildcats, 2-1

Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern men's soccer team (10-3-1, 3-3 Sun Belt) fell 2-1 to the Kentucky Wildcats (8-2-3, 5-1 Sun Belt) on Wednesday night (October 22nd).

Unlike the last few matches, the ranked bout on the night was an offensive shootout and extremely even as far as stats go throughout. Only a few opportunities existed at the start of the match, but a showstopping goal from Kevin Larsson of the Wildcats just before the 20th minute would put the Eagles down early.

However, they stuck to their gameplan by feeding the strikers and would eventually lead to Zachary Martin drawing a foul in the box. While he would not take the penalty, it was Emil Seedorff to step up. While the keeper guessed right to save the initial penalty kick, the rebound went right back to Seedorff who placed in the easy follow up to draw the match back even. For Seedorff, it was his third goal of 2025 and first in nearly two months after scoring against Wofford on August 28th.

The halftime whistle saw both teams even nearly everywhere. Each squad had the same amount of saves (2), corner kicks (3) and fouls (7) while the Wildcats had just one more shot.

As both teams settled back in the the second half, it would be the counterattack that would be the defining factor. After an eagle corner kick in the 64th minute was booted out by Kentucky, they were able to execute the counterattack and send in a cross where Larsson was able to touch in a goal and secure a brace in conference play. While the Eagles battled late, the ball could not find the back of the net.

Each team had five shots on target while the Wildcats had a 12-11 advantage in total attempts. While the Eagles had the 6-5 corner kick margin, Kentucky would make one more save the the Eagles on the evening, 4-3.

The Eagles continue their Sun belt stretch to end the regular season as they travel to James Madison on Sunday, October 26th. Kickoff in Harrisonburg is set for 7 PM.
