Eagles Triumph Over Trojans in Sun Belt Clash

Troy, Ala. – Georgia Southern continued its strong start to Sun Belt play Friday night, defeating Troy 3-1 (25–19, 25–19, 16–25, 25–20) inside Trojan Arena. The Eagles improved to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in conference, while the Trojans fell to 3-10 (1-4 SBC).

"Great fight on the road tonight," head coach Chad Willis said. "Proud of our group for being dialed into the game plan and staying poised in that 4th set to close out the match. We played pretty clean and did a nice job pressuring when we needed to with our block and defense, going to need to win the first contact battle tomorrow on the quick turn around."

Georgia Southern wasted no time setting the tone, hitting a .452 in the opening set and never trailing. Led by Reagan Barth, the Eagles took the first frame 25–19 and repeated the same score in the second with balanced attacking from Sam Bowron and Lydia Seymour

The Eagles' defense frustrated Troy's offense early, limiting the Trojans to just a .176 hitting percentage in the first set and forcing eight attack errors across the first two frames.

Troy battled back in the third set behind a dominant performance from Amiah Butler, who finished with 23 kills. The Trojans hit .292 in the set – their best mark of the night – and pulled away late for a 25–16 win to cut the deficit to 2–1.

The fourth set saw the momentum swing back to Georgia Southern. Barth and Bowron combined for several key kills down the stretch, and the Eagles' blocking came up big with 20 total block assists on the night. Seymour added six kills and nine blocks, while setter Kirsten Barrett distributed the offense efficiently with 40 assists and a .667 hitting percentage of her own.

Bowron totaled 13 kills, and Barth led the way offensively with 17 kills and 20 total points, earning her team-high honors. Maddie Cugino anchored the defense with 36 digs, while Bowron and Barth added eight and seven to help secure the win.

Georgia Southern continues its Sun Belt road trip on Saturday afternoon with another matchup at Troy, while the Trojans look to rebound and split the weekend series.
