Tampa, Fla. -- The Georgia Southern men's soccer team drew even to a 1-1 final against the USF Bulls at Corbett Stadium on Saturday night.
To start the first half, the Eagles came out strong as they got their offense out quicker than USF, recording the first few shots of the match. However, it was the Bulls to strike first. USF's Lorvo Kostanjsek placed in strike in the back of the net in the 32nd minute for his squad to take the lead before halftime. However, the Eagles would not sit quietly for long. Just four minutes later, a set piece by Mitch Picksley landed inside the box and was poked around by a few players before Toby Nevile finally delivered a final strike into the corner of the net to draw the match even with eight minutes before the break.
Georgia Southern out shot the Bulls 6-2 in the opening 45, but the two teams' defenses held down their respective forts for the final half of the match. Each team fired off three shots each in the second half, but it was the Eagles who held a 9-4 advantage against the AAC foe. However, the Georgia Southern back line held strong though, as they were able to handle nine USF corner kicks, including seven in the second half, to just the Eagles three. The match was also incredibly chippy as three cards and 17 fouls were assessed between the two teams.
The regular season finally gets underway as the next match is the home opener against Wofford on Thursday, August 22nd at 5 pm E.T. The location of the match is still to be determined.
