
Eagles Finish Up Record-Setting Year in the Classroom

Department posts record GPAs for the semester and year
STATESBORO - The nearly 450 student-athletes who make up the Georgia Southern Athletics Department earned a department-record 3.18 GPA for the 2023-2024 academic year, as announced Tuesday by director of athletics Jared Benko. This GPA breaks the 3.11 mark set last year. The student-athletes at Georgia Southern have earned a 3.00 or higher for the academic year in eight of the past nine years. The student-athletes also combined to post a 3.23 GPA for the Spring 2024 semester, which is the highest semester average on record.
On the team level, the women's tennis team posted the highest GPA of all teams for the spring 2024 semester with a 3.79. The men's tennis team posted the highest GPA of all men's programs with 3.75 for the spring semester. For the year, women's tennis posted the highest team GPA with a 3.82 and the men's tennis team posted a 3.73 GPA for the highest men's team GPA.
Overall, 277 student-athletes earned a place on the honor roll (3.0 or higher). Of that group, 89 made the Dean's List (3.50-3.99) and 93 made the President's List for earning a perfect 4.0 semester GPA.
Thirteen of the 15 programs earned a 3.0 or higher for the academic year with several setting program records.
