Georgia Southern's Coed team finishes 3rd, All-Girl team places seventh in weekend event
Georgia Southern spirit was on display last weekend in Daytona Beach for the NCA College Nationals. The Coed team, ed by senior Jerell Johnson and junior Rachel Flunker, placed 3rd nationally performing an energetic routine that had the crowd standing at the end. The team finished behind the University of Missouri and East Carolina and bested Air Force, Army, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Wichita State, and Florida Atlantic University.
The All-Girl team finished 7th out of 23 D1A teams. Led by Seniors Madison Hicks and Jessica Lofton, the team improved significantly from last year's finish. The judges noted particular focus and determination to produce a great routine.
"I was proud of how both teams maximized their potential and performed at an elite level," Georgia Southern head cheerleading coach Barry Munkasy said. "I was particularly struck by their resilience in the face of the many challenges faced over the football and basketball seasons."
