JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Georgia Southern men's tennis collected a 4-3 road win over host Jacksonville State on Monday afternoon in Jacksonville, Ala.

The Eagles moved to 5-7 on the season, while Jacksonville State fell to 8-6. It was just the second meeting in program history between the two schools.

Georgia Southern collected the doubles point from the Gamecocks as Matthew Mitchell and Aaron James Williams notched a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, while Pol del Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras claimed a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Eagles would pick up straight-set singles wins at No. 1 singles behind Paliouras, 6-2, 6-3 over Vanja Dobrnjac and at No. 5 singles behind Williams, a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Matei Palcau. Jacksonville State would notch a straight-set singles win at No. 3 singles, and the other three singles matches would all go to three sets.

After Jacksonville State picked up a win at No. 4 singles, Pol del Castillo clinched the victory with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over Alin Fatu at No. 2 singles.

"It was a great team win today," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "Adversity comes in many shapes and sizes. A moved match date, broken down vans, gritty opposition - but the guys handled it like seasoned vets. Today is all about the guys and the culture of toughness they are creating. We can't wait to get back home and start Sun Belt play."

The Eagles return to action on Friday, opening up Sun Belt Conference play by taking on Georgia State at 1 p.m. at the Wallis Tennis Center.
