Box Score DELAND, Fla. - Georgia Southern faced its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season on Sunday, falling at No. 63 Stetson by a 5-2 score in Deland, Fla.
Stetson improved to 8-2 on the season with the win, while Georgia Southern fell to 4-7 on the year. The Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 3, visiting Jacksonville State for an 11 a.m. ET match against the Gamecocks.
The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker in the third match. Pol del Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras picked up a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles, but Stetson collected a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Judson Blair and Aaron James Williams battled back from a 3-5 deficit to force a tiebreaker, which Stetson captured to earn the point.
Stetson clinched the victory with straight-set wins at No, 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Pol del Castillo earned a three-set win at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Ervin Haris Eminefendic, while Dimitris Paliouras won at No. 1 singles when his opponent retired in the second set.
