Eagles Fall to Late Yellow Jackets Rally, 7-4

Eagles head to Starkville to face Mississippi State this weekend
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern baseball fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 7-4, on Tuesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Eagles (1-3) scored three quick runs to take a 3-0 lead after the first frame, starting with Sean Smith's two-RBI single to score Josh Tate and Sam Blancato. Later in the inning, Kent Schmidt had his first collegiate hit, an RBI-double down the right field line, to score Smith and solidify the Eagles lead.
Georgia Tech (4-0) would respond in the top of the fifth inning with a run scored from a Drew Burress sac fly, finishing the top half of the inning at 3-1. The Eagles would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a JD Kaiser RBI-single through the left side of the infield, scoring Tate and bringing the lead back up to three runs at 4-1.
Georgia Tech would break the game open in the top of the eighth inning, scoring four runs and ending the frame with a 7-4 advantage. The Eagles would put two runners on in the bottom of the eighth and one on in the bottom of the ninth, but the Yellow Jackets would hold off the Eagles to finish the game on top.
Cam Jones earned the victory after 3.2 innings of work, giving up three hits and two walks but striking out eight. Ben Johnson was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs leading to the Tech advantage.
