Columbia, S.C --- The Georgia Southern Swim and Dive Team place 7th of 10 teams at the Gamecock Invitational this past week, as it included teams such as South Carolina, North Carolina, and Vanderbilt.
The team did well overall, but it was
Zuri Clavo's 1650 free mark that stole the meet as she broke the school record in the mile with her 17:05.79. Additionally, her split broke the 1000 team record at the start of her mile at 10:19:71.
Notable results from the three days in Columbia included
Ieva Evaltaite's 11th place finish in the 100 Breast Finals, with her mark of 1:03.25.Not far behind her was
Sarah Luskus, who finished 25th. In the 200 Breast, Evaltaite showed out once again, finishing 10th with a time of 2:17.26. In the 200 Free, a trio of Eagles placed in the top 40 in the finals with
Jamison Tiller,
Alex Pope, and
Carsyn Cosman placing 30th, 32nd, and 34th respectively. For the 200 Fly, two Eagles found themselves in the top 20 with
Madlen Wendland and
Jenna Maloy finishing 18th and 19th with just a 0.22 second difference between them.
The 200 Free relay showed out, placing 8th. Additionally, the 200 Medley Relay saw the Eagles secure a top-12 finish at 1:43.24. In the 500 free, both Clavo and
Victoria Kjaerulff placed 22nd and 29th in the finals, with Clavo swimming a 4:56.74. Overall, the team scored 208.5 on the week, placing themselves ahead of North Florida, Carson-Newman, and Milligan University.Â
The next meet for the Eagles is a tri-meet that will finally take place at home where UNC-Asheville and East Carolina (who also participated with the Eagles in Columbia) comes to town. The first event will begin at the Acquatic Complex at the RAC at 2 PM on December 13th.Â
