Second-ranked Eagles take on Keydets Saturday
STATESBORO - After nearly a month off from competition, the second-ranked Georgia Southern rifle squad returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Virginia to take on VMI co-ed and VMI women in a tri-match at Kilbourne Hall. Action begins at 9 a.m. with the five counters from each squad shooting. All seven Eagle student-athletes are scheduled to shoot in the match.
The matches against both squads will serve a SoCon matched for Georgia Southern The Eagles have won 23 consecutive SoCon matches dating back to a Oct. 31, 2020 loss to UAB at home.
Georgia Southern last shot on Oct. 20 at Army, posting a school-record 4,745 against TCU. The Eagles currently hold the third-best team aggregate average in the country at 4,728.8, trailing only Alaska Fairbanks and West Virginia (4,739.5). Southern's smallbore average of 2,346.6 is third-best in the country and its air rifle average of 2,382.2 is tied for third best. VMI's co-ed is averaging 4,572.8 in aggregate while its women's team is averaging 4,530.8 in aggregate.
