Eagles Finish Regular Season With 3-1 Stumble at Lafayette

Lafayette, La. --- The Georgia Southern volleyball, team fell 3-1 to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns this past Friday evening (November 15th) to finish the regular season.

In set one, the two team started trading points back and forth with no team establishing a lead. However, Lafayette went on a run to extend their lead to 12-8 and then another longer run to put it at 20-12 to eventually take the first set. Each team had 13 kills in the opening set with UL having five blocks to Southern's four. Set two was much closer, with the Cajuns only squeaking out a two-point win. Southern also had 13 kills again, beating UL by just one in the category. However, the story of the set was UL's four blocks to none for the Eagles.

In set three, the Eagles took the early lead at 6-2 with UL coming back and tying it at seven. After this, however, the Eagles held on to the lead the rest of the set and extended their lead by as much as six in the third frame. The Eagles out-killed the Cajuns 16-11 and flipped their last set with five blocks to the Cajuns two. In set four, the two squads stayed within two points of each other up until 12-10 when UL extended their lead and made runs to eventually win the set and match.

The Eagles had just a .128 attack percentage on the night to the Cajuns .148. The Eagles also had seven service errors and just two aces, which UL outperformed in those categories. Reagan Barth led the squad with her 16 kills while Lydia Seymour finished with a clean dozen kills while hitting ,379. However, it was Jordna Christy's six kills in thirteen attempts that stole the show as she only played the final two sets of the match with a .308 hitting percentage.

The Eagles (20-5, 10-4 SBC) finish the regular season as the number two seed in the Sun Belt East and advance to the conference tournament, held in Foley, Ala. where they will face South Alabama. First serve come at 8 PM ET from the Foley Event Center.
