PREVIEW: Eagles Set to Kick Off New Rifle Season This Weekend

Team hosts Georgia Collegiate Championship, #2 WVU at SSEC
STATESBORO - The fifth-ranked Georgia Southern rifle squad kicks off its 2024-25 season this weekend with a pair of matches at the Shooting Sports Education Center. On Saturday, the squad will host the Georgia Collegiate Championship as No. 17 North Georgia and Georgia Military College come to town. On Sunday, the second-ranked West Virginia visit for a match.
Action on Saturday begins at 8 a.m. with a single smallbore relay and a pair of air rifle relays for all three squads. On Sunday, the action starts at 8 a.m. with a single relay. Admission to both days is free.
Georgia Southern has won the past four Georgia Collegiate Championships after UNG held the title for the previous three seasons. The match will also serve a SoCon match for the two squads.
WVU, coming off a second-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships, will be a litmus test for the Eagles, who have their highest preseason ranking in program history.
Southern returns four shooters who served as counters at the SoCon Championships, but have to replace two-time All-American Addy Burrow. The squad returns four shooters from last year's Southern Conference Championship squad, including All-American and SoCon champ Emma Pohlmann, along with All-Americans Ella Goldfaden and Zahra Gonzalez Mazo, along with All-SoCon first-teamer Bremen Butler. The squad welcomes three newcomers in junior transfer Tori Watts (U of Nebraska) and freshmen Hailey Singleton (Ohio) and Emme Walrath (Wisconsin).
