STATESBORO - The 12th-ranked Georgia Southern rifle squad kicks off its 2023-24 season this weekend with a pair of matches at the Shooting Sports Education Center. On Saturday, the squad will host the Georgia Collegiate Championship as No. 17 North Georgia and Georgia Military College come to town. On Sunday, the second-ranked TCU Horned Frogs come to town for a match.

Action on Saturday begins at 8 a.m. with a single relay for all three teams' five-person squad. On Sunday, the action starts at 9 a.m. with a single relay. Admission to both days is free.

Georgia Southern has won the past three Georgia Collegiate Championships after UNG held the title for the previous three seasons. The match will also serve a SoCon match for the two squads.

TCU, coming off a second-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Rifle Championships, will be the highest ranked team to compete at the SSEC since No. 1 Alaska Fairbanks shot against the Eagles in 2021. The Frogs opened the season two weekends ago, downing VMI and Navy by posting a 4,738 aggregate, highlighted by Stephanie Allen's 600 in air rifle.

The Eagles will have a new look as they have to replace four shooters who completed their four-year careers with two SoCon titles. The squad returns three shooters from last year's Southern Conference Championship squad, including All-American Addy Burrow and 2023 SoCon smallbore individual champion Amy Visconti. Bella Gamez returns for her senior season, as well, and the trio is joined by five freshmen: Bremen Butler (Indiana), Ella Goldfaden (Israel), Zahra Gonzalez Mazo (Spain), Emma Pohlmann (Germany) and Brooklynne Weatherford (Flordia).
