STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team gets back into conference play with a road match-up against the second-ranked team in the nation, meeting with the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday, Sept. 22, in Morgantown, W. Va. Kick-off from the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
Georgia Southern and West Virginia have only met twice ever, with those two meetings coming in the two previous seasons. The two squads first met in 2021 as members of the MAC, and again in 2022 when both were a part of a newly reformed Sun Belt Conference. Both matches have been in Statesboro, so this is the first time the Eagles will play in Morgantown. WVU won both of the match-ups between the two.
Georgia Southern brings a 1-3-3 record into the match after earning a second-consecutive tie on the season, drawing with the Mercer Bears on Tuesday night in Statesboro. West Virginia brings a 6-0-1 record into the match, most recently taking down Dayton to remain undefeated in 2023. Both teams have faced one Sun Belt opponent, with both teams earning ties in the conference openers. (GS vs. Coastal Carolina and WVU vs. UCF)
Georgia Southern is 1-30-1 all-time against Top 25 ranked opponents, and 0-8 against Top 5 opponents in program history. The lone win against ranked competition came against 13th-ranked Furman in 2013.
