PREVIEW: Eagles End Home Stand Against Mercer

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team will conclude a four-game home stand with a showdown against the Mercer Bears on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Eagle Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Georgia Southern carries a 1-3-2 record into the match after opening Sun Belt Conference play with a 0-0 draw against Coastal Carolina. It's the first time since 2021 that the Eagles were unbeaten in a conference match. Mercer carries a 4-1-2 record into the match with its last match being a 4-0 drubbing of Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. Mercer is in the midst of a five-match road swing, where they have already visited the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, South Carolina, and will head to Utah after the match with the Eagles.

Georgia Southern is 24-30 all-time against the Mercer Bears in a series that spans back to 1980. Georgia Southern won the first four meetings in that series before Mercer won the next eight matches, then the Eagles would win the next 11 matches after that. Mercer has won the previous six matches in the series, including a 3-2 victory over the Eagles in 2021 in Statesboro, where a goal in the 89' gave MU a late lead.
