Heinrichs' Strike Gives Eagles A 1-0 Win At Montana

Georgia Southern finishes its non-conference schedule with a win in its first trip to the Treasure State

MISSOULA, Mont. - Senior Sade Heinrichs tallied a first-half goal and the Georgia Southern women's soccer team allowed just two shots on goal in picking up a 1-0 victory over host Montana on Sunday afternoon in the Eagles' final non-conference match of the year.

Georgia Southern improved to 5-2 on the year and knocked off a third regionally-ranked team in the Grizzlies (5-2-1), who came into the match ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings. The Eagles will begin Sun Belt action on Sunday, September 17, hosting Georgia State in a 4 p.m. contest at Eagle Field.

Montana started quickly in the match, recording five of the match's first six shots through the 16 minute mark, but it was a long-range chance by Heinrichs opened the scoring. Making a run from her center back spot in the 20th minute, Heinrichs laid off a pass to senior Simone Timm, who then passed it back to Heinrichs. She uncorked a shot from more than 28' out that handcuffed Montana goalkeeper Ashlyn Dvorak, going off her outstretched hands and into the net for the tally.

The Eagles would even up the shot totals in the latter part of the half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break with the shots all square at eight apiece.

In the second half, Georgia Southern outshot the Grizzlies by a healthy 12-4 margin. The best chance to double the lead for the Eagles came off the foot of redshirt junior Elis Nemtsov, who looped a ball to herself and volleyed a shot that hit the far post and ricocheted out. But the lone Heinrichs goal would stand to give the Eagles the victory.

The Eagles finished the match with a 20-12 edge in shots, tying their season high shot total. Freshman Quinn Wilson made two saves in net in recording her second shutout of the season, while Dvorak made seven saves - five in the second half alone - in net for the Grizzlies. Georgia Southern had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks and the Eagles were whistled for 11 fouls and two offsides, while Montana was whistled for five fouls and were offsides once.
