STATESBORO - Derwin Burgess Jr. had his usual highlight touchdown catch and the defense forced four turnovers as the Georgia Southern football team held its first full preseason scrimmage Saturday evening at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. While the action was going on, Fan Fest was held and following the scrimmage, the annual Little Eagles Clinic took place on the field.
Five quarterbacks took snaps, but it was newcomer
Davis Brin who found Burgess Jr. for a 29-yard touchdown pass late in the scrimmage for the only touchdown.
Michael Lantz and
Walker Bradberry combined to make seven field goals for the only offensive scoring.
Ayden Jackson ended the scrimmage with what would have been a 90-yard pick-six. Also picking up interceptions were
Tyrell Davis and
Jalen Denton. Freshman
Alijah Lacey had a forced fumble that
Chase Dial-Watson picked up. Lacey also had one of the four sacks recorded.
Many of the players near the top of the depth chart saw limited action, but
Khaleb Hood,Â
Marcus Sanders Jr. and freshman
KD Dorsey all had over 30 yards.Â
The Eagles will take Sunday off and will also have Monday off as classes start.
