STATESBORO - Georgia Southern's W.E. Lead program now announced its new committee for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Founded in 2021, W.E. LEAD is a committee specifically for female athletes looking to grow their leadership skills, network, and bring women empowerment throughout their future workplaces.

"It's very empowering to be in a room full of empowering girls," says rising senior and W.E. Lead participant Emma Sutton. "Learning to be more like them is super important."

With over 13 current members, the W.E. Lead program looks to instill fundamental skills, leadership qualities, and interactions with colleagues in corporate settings within Georgia Southern's female student-athlete population.

Members learn specific financial skills like filing their taxes, and managing finances, both of which are applicable across all majors. They also work on intrapersonal skills as well as explore areas like specific personality traits within each member and how they can be used to their advantage in the workplace.

With the observation of Women's history month throughout the month of March, Georgia Southern recently recognized their newest program members at the 2023 GUSPY's Event. The program admitted 13 new members across all female sports.

"I am most looking forward to learning more about what it means to be a leader and how to overcome the challenges women face as leaders," says new member Avery Sargeant. "I want to strengthen in areas such as public speaking and communication. I think that if I'm stronger in these areas, it will help me achieve my goal of being a better leader."

These new woman leaders will kick off their program in the Fall of 2023, continuing to empower female student-athletes across all sports at Georgia Southern.
