Eagles Notch Fourth Straight Win, Defeat Southern Miss 4-0

Georgia Southern concludes its weekend by facing South Alabama on Sunday in Mobile

Box Score

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Georgia Southern women's tennis ran its current Sun Belt win streak to four with a 4-0 victory over host Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg.

The Eagles moved to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in the league with the victory, while Southern Miss fell to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the league. Georgia Southern returns to action on Sunday, facing South Alabama in an 11 a.m. ET Sun Belt contest from Mobile.

Georgia Southern collected the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Eagles then clinched the match with three straight-set singles victories.

Silvia Martinez notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ebru Zeynep Yazgan at No. 1 singles, while Ana Tsitavets delivered a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alyssa Richter at No. 2 singles. Lindsay Tulenko collected a 6-1, 6-2 win over Clara Tardivel at No. 3 singles.

"Today was definitely a challenge as we dealt with both the rain delay, as well as the whipping wind," Georgia Southern Head Women's Tennis Coach Sean McCaffrey said. "It's key to make the little adjustments when the wind is at play. At times, the wind will favor the player who is able to be quick on their feet and who can maneuver into the position they need to make their shots.

"I felt that we had that with Ana, Silvia and Lindsay as they picked up their matches.

Paula was in really good control in her match and I feel as if Ninon and Nanaka would have been able to have things go their way if they continued. Silvia and Liv played really well despite a small hiccup mid match in doubles. They are such a smart team and it's great seeing them collaborate to put themselves in positive situations each match. And Lindsay and Ninon played another really good doubles match today. One of the better matches I've seen from them. It's not easy to win on the road in the Sun Belt so we will take this result. This will hopefully provide us some good momentum as we go up against a very good South Alabama team tomorrow as we continue to grind and put in the work down this stretch run."
