BLUFFTON, S.C. – Ben Carr shot 65,
Mason Williams fired a 66, and the Georgia Southern men's golf team matched the lowest team score of the day with a 268 in the second round of the Colleton River Collegiate Monday at the Colleton River Club Jack Nicklaus Course.
The teams played 36 holes today, and the Eagles (-27) moved seven places up the leaderboard and into second following the second round. Their 268 matched the fifth-lowest team total in school history (2019 Schenkel Invitational third round).
Georgia Southern, the 24th ranked team in the country according to Golfstat, trails No. 21 Kansas State (-32) by five strokes and leads tournament host Michigan State (-23) by four. Penn State (-22) and Indiana are tied for fourth. The field features 12 teams in top-100 and five in top-50, according to Golfstat.
Carr made six birdies, including four in a row, to shoot 30 on the front nine in the second round. The fifth-year senior added birdies on 10 and 12, giving him eight birdies on his first 12 holes of the afternoon.
Sparked by an eagle on the 516-yard, par-5 14th,
Mason Williams posted a 32 on the back nine and rolled in a total of four birdies in the second round. The fifth year senior shot a 69 in the first round to pace the Eagles along with classmate
Wilson Andress, who shot 69-69. Williams is tied for fourth, while Carr and Andress are tied for 12th.
Hogan Ingram shot 2-under on his last 10 holes to card a 71 in the first round, while
Parker Claxton made an eagle on 14 and rolled in birdies on his final two holes for a 68 in the second round.
