The 11th Annual Colleton River Collegiate Tournament, hosted by Michigan State, returns to Colleton River Club and the award-winning Jack Nicklaus Golf Course March 6-7 as a charitable event with proceeds benefiting the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.
Georgia Southern, currently ranked 23rd in the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll, plays in the tournament for the fourth consecutive time and is looking to defend its team title at the event. The Eagles also won the the tournament in 2020 and tied for 7th in 2019.
Three Eagles in the lineup have played in the tournament multiple times. Ben Carr and Mason Williams will be making their fourth appearance. Carr tied for fourth last year, Williams tied for ninth and the duo tied for third in 2020. Wilson Andress makes his second appearance and tied for 23rd last season, while Hogan Ingram makes his second appearance after finishing 14th last season.
The Eagles are coming off a second-place finish in the Vystar Credit Union Gators Invitational Feb. 12. Williams shot an 11-under-par 199 and tied for first, and Carr tied for 11th. It was the second-best finish for the Eagles in their 22nd time playing in the event. The 1979-80 team won the tournament, and the Eagles finished fourth a season ago.
Carr makes his 47th career start in the lineup, Williams makes his 38th start and Andress will make his 31st appearance in the lineup. Ingram makes his 18th start, and Parker Claxton is in the lineup for the second time in his collegiate career.
The Eagles are paired with Michigan State and Rutgers for the first two rounds and will tee off the first hole in a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
Following the event, Georgia Southern will have two weeks off before hosting the 43rd Schenkel Invitational, one of the premiere events and longest running tournaments in college golf, at Forest Heights Golf Club in Statesboro March 17-19.
