Box Score

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 74-ranked Georgia Southern women's tennis team got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating host Florida A&M by a 4-0 score in Tallahassee.

The Eagles improve to 8-2 on the year, while Florida A&M falls to 3-9. Georgia Southern returns to action on Sunday, hosting Davidson in a 1 p.m. non-conference match at the Wallis Tennis Center.

Georgia Southern earned the doubles point in the match by winning at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. Liv Ryan and Sophie Wagemaker teamed to defeat Sara Rakim and Sierra Sandy, 6-4, at the top doubles spot. Ninon Martinache and Lindsay Tulenko then knocked off Rebekah Gaines and Veronica Rodriguez, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.

The Eagles then clinched the victory with three straight-set wins. Paula Hijos downed Susan Salinas, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6 singles, while Martinache defeated Reagan Harris, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 singles. Martinez then downed Gaines, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.

"Our doubles play set the tone from the start," Georgia Southern Assistant Coach Jana Weiss said. "With the 1-0 lead, the team went into singles play with a lot of energy. We were able to win the first set on all six courts, with strong performances from each of the ladies. Florida A&M did not give up and picked up their game at the beginning of the second sets. However, the squad found a way to keep their composure and Silvia, Paula and Ninon played well to clinch the match against the Rattlers. I am proud of their performance today and look forward to seeing them compete tomorrow against Davidson at home!"
