PREVIEW: Men's Tennis Flies North for Two Conference Matches This Weekend

STATESBORO - The 69th-ranked Georgia Southern men's tennis team will take on James Madison and No. 71 Old Dominion this weekend to continue Sun Belt Conference play. Both matches will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26.

JAMES MADISON OUTLOOK: JMU has started off the season with an 8-6 record, including a 1-2 record in Sun Belt Conferene play. JMU fell to Troy and South Alabama on the road but defeated Georgia State yesterday at home to earn its first SBC win ever in men's tennis. The Dukes are led by Holden Koons who is 25-9 overall this season.

JAMES MADISON SERIES: The Eagles and Dukes have met twice in program history and are 1-1 against each other. The last meeting between the two came in 1989, when JMU defeated Georgia Southern. This is the first time the two are meeting as conference opponents.

OLD DOMINION OUTLOOK: Old Dominion is the only other ranked team in the Sun Belt, checking in two spots behind the Eagles at No. 71. ODU currently sits at 9-8 on the season and has opened SBC play with a 1-1 record. The Monarchs fell at South Alabama, but rebounded the next day and defeated Troy to earn its first SBC win ever in men's tennis. The Monarchs are led by Codie van Schalkwyk, who is 9-5 overall this season.

OLD DOMINION SERIES: This is the first-ever meeting between the Eagles and the Monarchs.

UP NEXT: Georgia Southern returns to Statesboro to host Coastal Carolina on Saturday, April 1, at the Wallis Tennis Center. Action starts at 10 a.m.
