NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern's Mason Williams has been named the Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Week in a vote by the league's head coaches, the conference announced today.
Williams shot an 11-under-par 199 to tie for first at the VyStar Credit Union Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, last week. He posted rounds of 66-65-68 in leading Georgia Southern to a second-place team finish, its best since the 1979-80 team won the event (22 appearances). The field featured four teams in the top-40 and nine individuals in the top-100.
It was Williams' third top-10 finish this season, his second top-5 of the campaign and the ninth top-5 of his career, and he moved up to No. 74 on Golfstat's national collegiate rankings.
The Eagles return to action at the Colleton River Collegiate March 6-7 at Colleton River Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.
