Bowl Festivities Begin in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH - The Georgia Southern Eagles kicked off their bowl week with a day of travel and some gift suite shopping at the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
The Eagles' entire travel party left a chilly Statesboro at 10 a.m. on six charter buses for the five-hour trip to Myrtle Beach. Upon arrival, the team was greeted by members of the staff who went ahead and had everything set up at the hotel to get them checked into the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort. Players could be seen rushing to the beach and some to the pool. The water temperature was a harsh reminder that while the team is at the beach, it is still December.
Head coach Clay Helton and assistant coaches traveled to the Black Drum Brewing for a welcome press conference with Ohio head coach Tim Albin while the team lined up for what's one of the biggest perks of a bowl game: the gear. The players received some adidas and bowl gear over the past two weeks but got even more on Tuesday evening. Each player and coach got to choose from different styles of sunglasses, which were a big hit, and also got several other gifts such as a bucket hat, beach necessities and a bowl bag.
After a late dinner, which included a custom pasta bar, players were on their own while some loaded shuttles to head to Broadway at the Beach. Walker Bradberry led a contingent to TopGolf to get some swings in and others remained at the hotel to play in the players' lounge. The players have their latest curfew tonight so Coach Helton is trusting his players to be smart in this town and reminded them it's a business trip.
On Wednesday, Hook and Barrel is hosting a ladies' brunch while the team heads to its first practice here in Myrtle Beach at Doug Shaw Stadium at noon. After practice the team is scheduled for an outing at Dave & Busters.
The Myrtle Beach Bowl will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. on ESPN. Tickets are still available through GSEagles.com/Bowl.
